Wedding – Arash & Mariam
After a long day, as it approached midnight I finally sat down with a glass of apple cider. The DJ was still playing music and there was a handful of people still around. It was the first chance I really had a moment to relax and reflect on the whirlwind of the day.
When I arrived at Arash’s house, I vaguely recall him saying to his friends that I wasn’t just the photographer or friend, but family. It was a touching thought and it’s something that has guided me since I started this whole business.
I don’t really have any family here in Perth. I don’t even have a lot of friends. But I am finding that photography has not only allowed me to satisfy my creative urges, but it has allowed me to open myself up more to new people. New families. New friends. New experiences. These were the same feelings I felt at my brother’s wedding and it’s one of the main reasons I started this business.
Before I could reflect and analyse any further, Arash called all of us over for one more dance. I put my gear down, I put my cider down and I rushed over to join them…
I’m an awful dancer. But it didn’t matter.
What a way to end the year…
