Quarry Amphitheatre Wedding – Niamh + Andrew

I’m fortunate enough to be in a position to really consider the couples that I collaborate with so when Niamh contacted me more than a year ago to photograph her wedding ceremony at the Sacred Heart Church and a Quarry Amphitheatre wedding reception, I just had a good feeling in my gut about it. As a photographer meeting a couple for the first time on their wedding day is a jarring but interesting experience (something I don’t think I’ll ever get used to), but right from the get go it was so relaxed and chilled out that it was a bit worrying at times.

Wedding photography is a genre that is full of cliches and one of my main goals is to try to make images as far from those cliches as I can, typically the opposite of the trends and expectations of the genre. In my mind, the ultimate success of this goal tends to come down to the amount of trust and freedom that is given to me to try and create something different and unique – Niamh and Andrew’s wedding produced so many of my favourite images in my portfolio that I feel that that’s a testament to not only their easy going nature but to the faith they had in me.

With each wedding it’s becoming more apparent to me that I don’t really fit the label of ‘wedding photographer’ per se, I’m just a guy with a camera that’s been given an opportunity to fulfil a passion and make something awesome and I’m forever grateful to Niamh and Andrew for giving me that chance.
